Project Overview
During the course of this project you will discover what its like to be independent in the real world. By the end of this project you will have demonstrated employability, researched multiple career options, developed a realistic budget plan, met state standards for Pre-Algebra and most importantly, you will have proven that you can make it on your own in the real world.
AAA Math Practice
Each week you must complete practice problems on the AAA Math website in addition to completing the Steps Assigned. Please refer to www.aaamath.com. On the left hand side you will see a list that is sorted by subject. Click on the link assigned and practice until you have completed 5 problems correctly. Print and save the print out to be handed in at the end of the assignment. You may find the weekly assignments in your project packet and in the project documents link to the right.

Now here's where the big challenge lays. You must find a job, a place to live, utilities, transportation, food, insurance and much more. Before you get overwhelmed, lets take it one step at a time. Don't forget to print/save out copies of the adds for your project portfolio.
1 - Find a job. Use any of the job finder links to the right to help you find a job in the area. You may also use on of the jobs you researched on career zone.
2 - Find an apartment - use the apartment rental links to the right to help you find an apartment you can afford on your salary.3 - Now you need to pay your utilities this includes: Water,
Electric, Heat, Gas, Phone and Cable or Satellite TV. 4 - Determine your mode of transportation. Will you buy or lease a car or will you opt for a bus pass. To determine weather to buy or lease a car you may use the Buy vs Lease worksheet in the Project Folder. Use this link to find car dealers.
5 - You will also need Health, Auto (unless you are taking the bus) and Renters Insurance. You may use the insurance links to the right for help. Also, check out the Health Insurance Document in the Project Documents Folder.

You will need to record everything by week so if you are given a monthly salary you must divide it by 4 weeks. If you are paid hourly than you must multiply it by 40 hours a week.
Do the same for each of your bills and expenses
Start with the essentials first. Then budget based on the amount of money you have left over.
Remember, life comes with surprises so make sure to keep some cash around.
